TMB3 Aluminum Trim vs. Ascent-5AS F-Trim

TMB3 Aluminum Trim

The TMB3 converts economical flat aluminum coil into a formed metal trim for channel-letter faces. The aluminum has a PVC backing, allowing the fabricator to bond it to acrylic or polycarbonate using standard trim-cap adhesive.

After the trim is formed around the face, the completed face assembly is attached to the conventional channel-letter return. This system provides the familiar construction and serviceability of a traditional trim-cap letter while offering the appearance and durability of aluminum.

ASCENT-5AS F-Trim

F-trim begins as a specialized, preformed aluminum profile, making it more expensive than the flat aluminum used by the TMB3. The ASCENT-5AS accurately notches and bends the profile to follow the letter shape.

This construction requires a 1/8-inch polycarbonate face. The F-trim is mechanically connected to the polycarbonate using tiny nails instead of standard trim-cap glue. The resulting assembly creates a narrow, clean metal border around the illuminated face.

The Main Difference

  • TMB3: Forms lower-cost flat aluminum with a PVC backing into trim that can be bonded using standard trim-cap adhesive.
  • ASCENT-5AS: Processes a more expensive preformed F-trim profile that must be fastened with tiny nails to a 1/8-inch polycarbonate face.

Neither should be described as trimless — both leave a visible metal border around the face. TMB3 aluminum trim is a durable, cost-effective aluminum alternative to conventional plastic trim cap on a standard return system. F-trim is a specialized, more expensive construction that produces a slimmer, more architectural edge.
