Features

The Ascent 5AS is an all-in-one channel letter bender, fully calibrated for all materials with the ability to add new materials easily in the future. The machine has all the necessary components, including a coil holder and extrusion holder.

  • UL extrusion / profiles are non-proprietary and can be purchased from Ascent at competitive prices or in large quantities directly from the manufacturer.
  • As a multi-profile channel letter bender, the Ascent 5AS runs the extrusion in 1.75", 2", 3", 4" and F-trim sizes — all on the same machine.
  • The extrusion is painted Epoxy white, which can be used without repainting or as an excellent primer for different colors. Other colors are available.
  • Ascent's extrusion system uses a pneumatic gun (supplied with the machine) with tiny stainless-steel nails to form the initial shape of the letter, eliminating the need for adhesive. This makes producing trimless letters easier than the competition's system, which uses adhesive and a magnet table.
  • The Ascent extrusion system is a UL/RU Recognized Component for indoor and outdoor use for letters up to 66" (the competition's own published guidance recommends not exceeding 38" for exterior letters).
  • This channel letter bending machine can accommodate coils of stainless steel, brass, aluminum, galvanized steel and copper.
  • The aluminum coils' height ranges from 1" to 8" (203.2 mm), and their thickness ranges from 0.025" to 0.063".

How do you convert the Ascent 4AS / 5AS between materials?
The material setup is pre-programmed (adding new materials is extremely easy), everything is software-driven, and there is no need for hardware changes.
Can the Ascent 4AS / 5AS make sharp bends?

What's the difference between the Ascent EDGE-3, EDGE-4, 5AS, and MAX — which one do I need?
Ascent makes four CNC bending machines, each suited to a different job: the 5AS is the trimless/reverse-halo/F-trim specialist for shops moving away from trim cap; the Ascent EDGE-3 and EDGE-4 are traditional notching-and-flanging benders for trim-cap letters, with the EDGE-4 adding 8-axis servo precision and hole-punching; and the MAX is the large-format machine for letters over 8" deep or 0.125" aluminum. Does the bending machine come with the software I need, or do I have to buy it separately?
Yes — every Ascent bending machine ships with its own control software included in the price, running on a familiar Windows-driven interface and accepting standard CAD/vector files such as .dxf. No separate software purchase is required.
Is the bending machine hard to operate if my team has no sign-making experience?
No. Ascent's machines are designed to reduce the training time required for new operators — most people are productive within a few days of on-site training, and the material setup is pre-programmed and software-driven, so switching between jobs doesn't require manual recalibration. Can one operator run the machine for a full production shift, or do I need multiple people?
A single trained operator runs the bending machine for a full shift. Feeding, bending, and cutting are automated once the job is loaded — the operator manages material changeovers and quality checks rather than forming each letter manually.
Do you sell the aluminum coil, extrusion, and clips I need, or do I have to source them elsewhere?

Can the 5AS make combination letters — front-lit and back-lit in the same letter set?
Yes. Combining front-lit and back-lit construction is one of the 5AS's standard capabilities, alongside trimless, reverse halo, F-trim, and side-lit plastic returns — all on the same machine without retooling.
How many channel letters can one bending machine produce per day?
It depends on letter size and complexity, and there's no single number that applies to every shop. The bending machine's own cycle time is fast — bending is a small fraction of total production time compared to the rest of the assembly (welding, LED installation, stapling), so it's rarely the bottleneck.
