What's the difference between the Ascent EDGE-3, EDGE-4, 5AS, and MAX — which one do I need?
Ascent makes four CNC bending machines, each suited to a different job: the 5AS is the trimless/reverse-halo/F-trim specialist for shops moving away from trim cap; the Ascent EDGE-3 and EDGE-4 are traditional notching-and-flanging benders for trim-cap letters, with the EDGE-4 adding 8-axis servo precision and hole-punching; and the MAX is the large-format machine for letters over 8" deep or 0.125" aluminum. Does the bending machine come with the software I need, or do I have to buy it separately?
Yes — every Ascent bending machine ships with its own control software included in the price, running on a familiar Windows-driven interface and accepting standard CAD/vector files such as .dxf. No separate software purchase is required.
Is the bending machine hard to operate if my team has no sign-making experience?
No. Ascent's machines are designed to reduce the training time required for new operators — most people are productive within a few days of on-site training, and the material setup is pre-programmed and software-driven, so switching between jobs doesn't require manual recalibration. A single trained operator runs the bending machine for a full shift. Feeding, bending, and cutting are automated once the job is loaded — the operator manages material changeovers and quality checks rather than forming each letter manually.
How many channel letters can one bending machine produce per day?
It depends on letter size and complexity, and there's no single number that applies to every shop. The bending machine's own cycle time is fast — bending is a small fraction of total production time compared to the rest of the assembly (welding, LED installation, stapling), so it's rarely the bottleneck.
